The 100th anniversary since my Father's birth
will be in two years from now. I wish to celebrate
the memories of him as well as his works, together with all of you fans
of the director, Ishiro Honda.
There are a variety of ideas running through my head for possible
What lies at the root of Ishiro Honda's personality, philosophy, the
reason(s) for him being respected and loved by so many? He
would probably say "Do not do anything fancy. Those things
embarrasse me, and there is no need for such things."
His mentor director Kajiro Yamamoto and his best friend director Akira
Kurosawa both have said "Ino-san is a director who is very quiet, never
felt comfortable with flashy matters, and is very shy." I
really love what they said, and I would like to treasure these words.
So how about doing a "hand-made/home-made centennial
festival"? How about screening his works over the course of a
full year? And for the screenings of his SFX films, how about
putting on a panel talk-show with various staff and actors from back in
Would it be possible to do screenings of the original works in the
United States? (of course, only with the help of our friends
in the U.S.)
It would be wonderful to be able to make this centennial celebration
into something which is approved by as many fans as possible, as well
as an event in which all of you would be interested in participating.
Please let me know any thoughts and ideas you may have.
Since this will be produced by myself along with only a handful of my
colleagues, it may take a bit of time for me to send you a
reply. I may not even be able to respond to all of your
emails and letters. Your kind patience and understanding on
this point would be greatly appreciated, and I look forward to hearing
from you all.
