Synopsis

This is a love story. Tomotsu Tsuyama works as an engineer at the shipbuilding company where his father is the president. He falls in love with a waitress named Akiko whom he meets when he encounters engine trouble and Akiko stops to help him push his car off the road. Tomotsu's sister Yoko helps him to propose to Akiko, but she already has someone else in her heart...

This is a romantic comedy which takes its motif from the hit song by Yuuzo Kayama, Come Marry Me. It is the comic clash of people who come from different family situations and who hold different sets of values, with a screenplay by Zenzo Matsuyama and directed by Ishiro Honda. The cast is populated with talented actors, and it features two popular young stars, Yuuzo Kayama and Yoko Naito. Especially memorable is Ichiro Arishima's overbearing character whose repeated drinking of Jintan tonic serves as a running gag throughout the film.
Yuuzo Kayama and Yoko Naito. Kayama sings "Look Upon the Night Sky" and "I Am a Child of the Ocean" in the movie.
In a fantasy sequence, Tomotsu proposes to Akiko, and they dream of a rich life together...
On the Tsuyama household set with Yoko Naito, who became an idol star after debuting in Akira Kurosawa's Red Beard.
